You will gain a variety of useful tools and skills to use formally and informally with colleagues, friends, and family. The training will enable you to:
Program Vision and Target Audience
This Level 1 course will provide instruction, interactive learning (e.g. improv activities, games, demonstrations, group presentations, discussions, art, and music), and practice with feedback in order to help you coach effectively right away. Through a combination of synchronous sessions and personalized, flexible asynchronous work, this course will provide the needed 60 hours of professional coaching skills “coaching education” required for ICF credentialing as an Associate Certified Coach (ACC).
This course gathers high-quality people like you who:
Just like quality coaching, this course will be adapted according to the topics and skills most relevant to what the group needs. While we will ensure we follow the ICF competencies and requirements, we also have lots of flexibility for your real-life interests to help shape our activities and refine our learning modules.
Whether you are interested in professional accreditation with the ICF, providing internal coaching or mentoring in your organization, or wanting to better empower your team as the supervisor or team leader, this course will help you take your leadership to the next level. You will also learn to better embody a coaching mindset and enrich communication dynamics in every other area of your life as well (e.g. parent, volunteer, friend, board member).
Note: Instruction and group mentor coaching is in English, so comfortability listening and speaking in English is essential. Practice can be coordinated in other languages if other participants have other language preferences too. Assessment is only available in English. If other languages are preferred participants can use the ICF portfolio pathway.
Learning Philosophy
Many leaders tend to focus on getting work done through people, but wise leaders focus on developing capacity in their people through work. A significant characteristic of highly effective leaders is that they spend less time doing the work themselves, and instead prioritize developing those around them and their teams.
“Leaders may impress others when they succeed, but they impact others when their followers succeed.”
John Maxwell
Like coaching, this course will be adapted according to the topics and skills most relevant to what the group needs. While we will ensure we follow the ICF competencies and requirements, we also have lots of flexibility for your real-life interests to help shape our activities and design our learning modules. Unlike most of the coaching schools who run a content-driven program, this program runs on adult learning principles (e.g. adults want to be involved in what, when and how they learn; and adults gain the most when they can pull from, and build on, their own experiences and prior learning).
Previous participants in a similar virtual courses have ranked it as a 9.5+/10 regarding overall satisfaction with the experience. (Even with the all the training being online!)
Coaching Models Used
This course will introduce you to a variety of coaching models and tools.
People often find it helpful to have a way before they can find their way. With that in mind, the course will use the simple AAAAA model as the initial conversation framework.
This model is straightforward and provides a solid foundation with which students can build core coaching skills. As learners develop confidence and learn about other models, they will be free to adapt or create one that might better fit their style or context.
ICF Credentialing
This course will provide the 60 hours of coaching education required for certification through the International Coach Federation (ICF). If you are not interested in certification, you will still be able to take your acquired knowledge and utilize it in your own circles of influence. If you are interested in certification, please view the ICF website: ACC Credential > Level 1 Path (the easiest and least expensive pathway). If you are not sure about certification at this time, you can add the extra mentor coaching and assessment at a later date.
This course will also include 20 hours of out-of-class (asynchronous) learning assignments, and implementation. There will be a variety of options catered to different learning styles and contexts.
